After breakfast, drive to Dirang, stopping at the Tipi Orchid Centre, home to rare orchid species across 112.8 acres. On arrival, visit Dirang Dzong and a nearby Monpa village to see traditional bamboo-and-mud houses built to withstand the cold, along with local dance and cultural performances. Overnight in Dirang.
Drive to Tawang via the stunning Sela Pass, with views of one of India’s most beautiful high-altitude lakes. Stop at Jaswant Garh, a memorial to the soldiers of the 1962 Indo-China War, and Nuranang Falls, one of India’s most dramatic waterfalls. Evening at leisure in Tawang.
Visit Madhuri Lake and Pangateng Tso in the morning. In the afternoon, travel to Bumla Pass (subject to military permission), a snow-covered viewpoint at roughly 5,000 metres near the Indo-Tibet border, best visited between May and October. Overnight in Tawang.
Drive to Bomdila, stopping at the Nag Temple and Gontse Gaden Rabgye Ling Monastery. If time allows, visit the Craft Centre, run by local women selling bamboo and wood crafts, and the Bomdila Museum for insight into local culture. Overnight in Bomdila.
Check out and transfer to Kaziranga, spread across roughly 430 square kilometres and famous worldwide for its one-horned rhinoceros population. The park is also home to tigers, wild buffalo, leopards, and numerous migratory bird species. Evening at leisure.

Ride the scenic Trans-Himalayan Highway to Mandala Top, known for its 108 Buddhist stupas and 360-degree views of the Eastern Himalayas. Continue to Shergaon, with time in the afternoon to explore the area’s fruit orchards. Overnight in Shergaon.
Ride back toward Guwahati, stopping at viewpoints and a few lesser-visited monasteries along the way. Take a tea break at Kalaktang village, then visit the Indo-Bhutan border crossing at Jomotsangkha for a short visit into Bhutan (about 3 km). Continue toward Lachen, passing the Singhik viewpoint, Seven Sisters Waterfall, and the town of Mangan, with the scenery shifting through forested hills and mountain streams along the way. An early start for one of the trip’s highlights: the ride through Kanchenjunga National Park to Gurudongmar Lake, sitting at roughly 17,100 ft (5,148 m) near the Indo-Tibet border. Part of the lake famously never freezes, even in deep winter. Retrace the route to Chungthang and continue to Lachung for the night.
Ride from Lachung, at 11,800 ft, into the Yumthang Valley — also known as the Valley of Flowers — passing glaciers, rhododendron forests (seasonal), and a sulphur hot spring. Retrace the route and continue to the offbeat village of Dzongu for the night.
A full day to explore Upper Dzongu, one of the last places in Sikkim where traditional Lepcha culture remains intact. Depending on the season, you can pick fresh oranges straight from local farms and unwind at a natural hot spring pool.
